Choose your whistle, learn how to hold it, and make your first sounds.
Learn the three most important notes: B, A, and G. Simple exercises to build confidence.
Develop steady breath control and produce a clear, consistent tone.
Understand how tin whistle tablature works so you can learn tunes from written music.
Use your tongue to articulate notes cleanly — the foundation of good phrasing.
Combine everything you've learned to play your first complete tune.
Level 2
You can play basic tunes — now develop your tone, learn ornaments, and explore rhythm. This level bridges simple playing and expressive musicianship.
Polish your tone, practice dynamics, and develop consistent volume across all registers.
Master the cut — a quick grace note that adds sparkle to your playing.
Learn the tap (or strike) — a fundamental ornament that adds rhythmic punch.
Combine cuts and taps into rolls: the long roll and short roll.
Play the G major scale across two octaves with correct fingering and ornamentation.
Understand the difference between jig (6/8) and reel (4/4) rhythms. Learn to play both with proper feel.
Level 3
Refine your technique with advanced ornaments, speed building, and stylistic variation. Prepare to play confidently in sessions.
Add crans (low-hand rolls) and slides to your ornament toolkit for richer phrasing.
Build finger speed and agility through targeted exercises and scales.
Master double tonguing (ta-ka-ta-ka) for rapid passages and repeated notes.
Develop lift, swing, and expressive timing — the difference between playing notes and making music.
Learn to create tasteful variations on standard tunes while keeping the core melody recognizable.
